Dr. Muhammad Usman is an Associate Professor at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI), Pakistan, where he also heads the Quantum Engineering Lab and the Photolithography Lab. He was named a 2024 Top Scholar by ScholarGPS and received the 2025 Physica B Award for Condensed Matter Physics. He has been listed in the prestigious “Photonics100” for two consecutive years (2023–2024). His research focuses on quantum engineering of III‑V semiconductor optoelectronic devices, including light‑emitting diodes (LEDs), laser diodes, high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs), and Micro‑LED display technologies. He has published over 100 high‑impact papers in journals such as Laser & Photonics Reviews, Journal of Luminescence, and Nanotechnology, and has repeatedly been among the top 100 most‑read or most‑cited authors of IOP, MDPI, and World Scientific publications. He has led multiple research grants from the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and national programs, and has supervised numerous master’s students (many of whom received fully funded PhD scholarships abroad) and doctoral students. He has received the Maximum Cash Award for research publications at GIK Institute in five different years (2019, 2020, 2022, 2024, 2025). He serves as a peer reviewer for over 40 international journals including Scientific Reports, Applied Physics Letters, and IEEE Photonics Journal, and as a grant reviewer for the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and Pakistan’s NRPU program.
