Dr. Efstratios I. Kamitsos is a distinguished physical chemist and Director of Research Emeritus at the Theoretical and Physical Chemistry Institute of the National Hellenic Research Foundation, Athens, Greece. He earned his PhD in Physical-Inorganic Chemistry from Brown University (USA) in 1983. His research focuses on the synthesis, structure, and dynamics of materials, with particular emphasis on glassy systems, vibrational spectroscopy (Raman and infrared), and the application of spectroscopic techniques to materials science, cultural heritage, and industrial problems. He has published over 250 papers in peer-reviewed journals, with more than 15,400 citations and an h-index of 66 (Google Scholar). Dr. Kamitsos has been recognized as a world-leading scientist, ranking in the top 0.32% globally across all fields by ScholarGPS®. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the 2021 Alfred R. Cooper Award and the 2025 Samuel R. Scholes Lecture Award from the American Ceramic Society, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Greek Chemists (2024). He has served as Director of the Theoretical and Physical Chemistry Institute and as Director and Chairman of the Board of the National Hellenic Research Foundation. His extensive international service includes membership on the Council of the International Commission on Glass (ICG), advisory panels for NATO and the European Research Council, and evaluation committees for the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation.
